The minute I saw the Scandia Nett Lounge chair I fell in love–all over again! Architect Paul Lunder’s company, Fjordfiesta, recreated Hans Brattrud’s amazing designs and brought the ’50s back with these beauties. You can request a quote from Suite NY or have your designer contact them for pricing info. The chair is available in laminated wood slats in American walnut, American oak, or American oak with color stain finish (blue, green, black, red or white with visible wood grain available).

…I suddenly feel like grabbing a book and getting cozy under a blanket! As always, thanks for stopping by and reading A Fresh Coat! Hope you enjoy your Thursday! XOXO Jen

Q Design Home in Cartagena

September 23, 2014 § Leave a comment

As I was exploring the streets of Cartagena, Colombia, my eye was instantly attracted to Q Design on Calle de la Iglesia de la Estrella Esquina. Like most streets in the city, it was narrow, slightly crowded and it would be easy to miss the shop if it weren’t for the bright red logo out front. For a minute it reminded me of the Target bulls-eye, so I was intrigued, and then I saw a Kartell chair in the window and I knew this was a store I’d like! They carry a lot of my favorite brands/designers like Philippe Starck, Chilewich (I still have a favorite set of place mats on my table rotation I bought five years ago!), Foscarini, and Artemide. If you’re ever in the neighborhood, stop by and say hi! It was amazing finding this little gem and I’m happy I was able to share it with you all. As always, thanks for reading! XOXO Jen

Lamp Love at Target

November 4, 2013 § Leave a comment

Yesterday (Nov. 3) Target introduced their Threshold Mercury Glass lamp base ($49.99) and candle holders ($14.99-$17.99 each) which will be available until Dec. 24. These items are a part of their special holiday collection and I have been excited to tell you about them since I got the press release back at the end of September! Once of the things I love about Target (and I am not paid by them so you can take this as my personal opinion!) is that you can get something super stylish for a great value! I am all about getting the most for my money, as I know my readers are, too–and right now they are having a buy one get one 30% off decor sale. Bulls-eye, Target!

As always, thanks for stopping by! Come say hi on our Facebook and Instagram, too 🙂 XOXO Jen

HomeGoods and TJ Maxx Open in Georgetown Tomorrow! (*Plus a Giveaway*)

September 6, 2013 § 16 Comments

“Holy crap-this store is big!” was the first thing I thought when I rode the escalator down the stairs of the brand spankin’ new 50,000 square foot HomeGoods and TJ Maxx combo store in Georgetown (3222 M St NW ). The space is what used to be the really sad, often overlooked “mall” where the only place I ever seemed to visit was the DMV (I’m happy I’m a real Washingtonian now though!). The megastore opens tomorrow morning at 8am for its grand opening celebration and will close at 8pm; regular store hours will be M-Sat 9:30am-9:30pm and Sun 11am-8pm.

20130906-205732.jpgSo, what can you expect? Well, I’m not supposed to “name names” but the Runway section has some amazing deals on leather bags and I can tell you you won’t be disappointed with the variety of clothes either! The minute I stepped foot in the section–it’s a special little slice of heaven in the front of the store where you can find high fashion designs for women (sorry, guys!) at drastically reduced prices–my Fall shopper mode came into full effect. Some hot trends like leather accents mixed with tweed stood out to me and I can’t wait to go back tomorrow and shop!

20130906-205740.jpgBesides the Runway, the store has a wide variety of men’s, kids, home accents and even specialty food items (black quinoa stood out to me along with some yummy looking British teas). Their pillow section is about a mile long (again, heaven!) and the table linens I peeked at were amazing–great fall colors like burnt orange and teal with modern, Moroccan-inspired designs were some of my favs. They also have a great selection of handmade items from India and hand-painted glass from Italy.

Outdoor Style

My favorite place to be in the summer, before it gets disgustingly humid in DC, is outside. Since I don’t have a pool or yard of my own (hellooooo rental!) I can at least dream and offer some suggestions on outdoor style for you! If you like anything you see here and have a pool or a yard, please invite me over 🙂 I will help you decorate and/or BBQ!

First on my list is the Boyd Kidney Style Ottoman, $599, from Room & Board. It’s plywood covered in Sunbrella fabric, which is amazing and comes in a ton of different colors like Ocean Blue, below.

If you’re looking for something a little less modern and you’re not afraid of mixing patterns, check out this porch swing by MacKenzie-Childs, $2,950.

If you don’t want to spend $3k on just one swing (even though it is awesome), you can head over to Home Depot and get something pretty modern for a lot less like the Atlantic Bellagio six piece sectional set with bright orange cushions for $2,499.

If you’ve read my blog before you know I sort of have a crush on all things West Elm, so it’s probably no surprise that I would include one of their outdoor pieces. The Tillary outdoor sofa (up to $1,439) looks so elegant and I love it in white because you can switch out your pillows to freshen up the look year after year.

No room is complete without a rug, right?! Outdoor rugs have gotten so much better over the years and now you can find them practically in any color/pattern/style. I love this whole little setup that I found on Grandin Road which highlights their Emma rug, $129-$579:

This Tulip Chair and Table, $299-$399, would be just as perfect on a balcony as it would be in this beautiful ocean setting (also available at Grandin Road).

Perfect Patio Style!

Hi everyone! When I saw this table I immediately wished I had a little outdoor space at my tiny apartment so I could set this baby up! I’d like to introduce you to the Bend Dining Table from West Elm ($797 for table and chairs). The yellow is so cheery and it sort of reminds me of the Eiffel Tower with all of the lines from the wires. I can envision myself enjoying a nice cold iced coffee in the morning out here…ahh. The design is by Bend, which was founded by Gaurav Nanda who sounds like a pretty cool guy if you ask me. Apparently, he used to have a T-shirt business, was one of the inventors of the Clocky (the alarm clock that runs away beeping) and lives in L.A. which automatically makes him interesting in my book (I am planning a trip there in May and I am so excited as I have never been to CA before!).

I hope this helps inspire you to start thinking about dining al fresco once the weather starts to warm up! In my mind I am already in dresses and sandals! As always, thanks for reading and enjoy your day! XOXO
