LUSH: Memorial Day Shopping!

May 27, 2014 § Leave a comment

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day! I enjoyed my three-day weekend and had a nice mix of work and play! Saturday I went to a winery with a friend, Sunday I did sound and lighting for a wedding in Old Town, Alexandria, and yesterday I wandered around Georgetown and did some shopping. I went into LUSH because I was in desperate need of a good, refreshing shower gel and an amazing foot scrub–daily sandal appearances and the DC humidity make these two additions a complete necessity at this time of year! I also like shopping at LUSH because they use natural ingredients, make everything by hand and do not test on animals.

Picture 1The first product I settled on after playing with a ton of items in the store (so much fun!) was their dirty springwash shower gel ($9.95-$28.95). It’s a mixture of spearmint, menthol, glycerin and sea salt and has a tingling, cooling property and leaves your skin really soft. Essentially, it is amazingly refreshing! Yeah, it’s technically for guys but girls use it, too and the scent isn’t so strong that when you get out of the shower you still smell like mint. Plus, my signature scent (Victoria’s Secret Vanilla Lace) always overpowers any lingering shower gel scent! I bought the small bottle to make sure I liked it once I got home but I will definitely return to get a larger bottle soon!

The next product I had to get was the stepping stone ($4.50). I’ve purchased this in the past and I completely forgot how much I love it! First of all, it smells soooooooo good and has hints of lemon and lime plus a mixture of pumice stone, sea salt and a deodorizing foot powder called lycopodium. All you need to do is break off a small piece (it crumbles easily) and mix it with water in your hand then apply it to your feet–they will come out smooth and smelling great!

As always, thanks for stopping by! BTW, come say hi on Pinterest, FacebookTwitter, and Instagram @afreshcoat! XOXO Jen

18-Carat Rose Gold Finishes! Yes, please!

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of Rose Gold–in fashion, jewelry and in kitchen and bath finishes! So often fashion trends make their way over to the interior design industry and I just love when that happens! I first fell in love with Rose Gold when I saw MK’s oversized runway watch, above ($295). I recently came across a gorgeous new finish from Dornbracht called Cyprum. It’s their first new finish in five years and is made of a copper and gold alloy mix with a non-corrosive electroplated surface that sparkles! It’s available in their kitchen (Tara) and bath (MEM) lines starting this summer . Prices start at $3,075 for a single-lever bath mixer and $2,519 for a single-lever kitchen mixer. Time to accessorize your sinks, guys! What do you think about the rose gold? Are you a fan? As always, thanks for stopping by! XOXO Jen

HomeGoods and TJ Maxx Open in Georgetown Tomorrow! (*Plus a Giveaway*)

September 6, 2013 § 16 Comments

“Holy crap-this store is big!” was the first thing I thought when I rode the escalator down the stairs of the brand spankin’ new 50,000 square foot HomeGoods and TJ Maxx combo store in Georgetown (3222 M St NW ). The space is what used to be the really sad, often overlooked “mall” where the only place I ever seemed to visit was the DMV (I’m happy I’m a real Washingtonian now though!). The megastore opens tomorrow morning at 8am for its grand opening celebration and will close at 8pm; regular store hours will be M-Sat 9:30am-9:30pm and Sun 11am-8pm.

20130906-205732.jpgSo, what can you expect? Well, I’m not supposed to “name names” but the Runway section has some amazing deals on leather bags and I can tell you you won’t be disappointed with the variety of clothes either! The minute I stepped foot in the section–it’s a special little slice of heaven in the front of the store where you can find high fashion designs for women (sorry, guys!) at drastically reduced prices–my Fall shopper mode came into full effect. Some hot trends like leather accents mixed with tweed stood out to me and I can’t wait to go back tomorrow and shop!

20130906-205740.jpgBesides the Runway, the store has a wide variety of men’s, kids, home accents and even specialty food items (black quinoa stood out to me along with some yummy looking British teas). Their pillow section is about a mile long (again, heaven!) and the table linens I peeked at were amazing–great fall colors like burnt orange and teal with modern, Moroccan-inspired designs were some of my favs. They also have a great selection of handmade items from India and hand-painted glass from Italy.

Bling Out Your Bath!

February 6, 2013 § Leave a comment

I’m a big fan of all things sparkly and believe that a little bling goes a long way. The new “All That Glitters” bath accessory collection from Topex Hardware features Swarovski crystals and adds a chic element to the bathroom. The line includes towel bars, robe hooks, toilet paper holders, shelves, soap dishes and tumblers. I am really digging the bling and had to share these with you! Prices range from $89 for the soap dish to $485 for the 18-inch towel bar. As always, thanks for reading A Fresh Coat! XOXO

Holiday Sales Are Here!

November 8, 2012 § Leave a comment

Hey everyone! If you haven’t noticed, it seems as though yesterday (or at least that’s when I was at the mall and noticed) was the official day the malls and shops everywhere broke out their holiday decorations and started playing Christmas music. Funny how it coincides with me thinking about what I want to get my friends and family for the holidays! I already have downloaded a Black Friday app on my iPhone and I’ve been getting updates as stores release their sales (I know, I’m nuts!). Here are a few sales going on now that I thought you might enjoy! As always, thanks for visiting A Fresh Coat!

Shower Curtain Hooks!

October 13, 2011 § Leave a comment

Hi everyone! Sorry I’ve been away for a bit–this change in the weather made me come down with a super nasty cold and then I flew south to Miami to try and get some sunshine in! I’m back from Miami, slightly tan, happy and ready to share some cute finds with you today.

Last year I also went to Miami around this time and stayed at the Whitelaw Hotel where their hot pink and white decor inspired me to re-do my bathroom (this time I stayed at the Continental which was terrible). My walls were already white so I got a black and white shower curtain, hot pink accessories (rug, storage boxes) and went to town on my new Miami-inspired style bathroom (pictures to come later). Here’s a pic of the Whitelaw:

Whitelaw Hotel, Miami

I used clear shower curtain hooks I purchased from Marshall’s for around $7 but recently they have started to break so it’s time to find some new ones. I thought I’d show you some of the awesome finds that have me hooked! I’ll probably go with a classic clear or white but couldn’t help but show you what else I found!

These rings are ship-shape for any beachy/sailing-themed bathroom.

Sailing Hooks, $11.95

2. A Hoot

These hooks come as part of a set and might be best for a kid’s bathroom but I won’t lie–I’d probably have this in a bathroom in my house if I had more than one!

Saturday Knight, Owls Collection, $8-$29

These rings are for the modern bathroom and add a great splash of color!

Blue Concentrate Neon Rings, $50 (by Kshop)

If you change out your shower curtains for the seasons, these would be a perfect addition for the cooler weather and colors!

Pinecone Lodge, $12.99

 5. Classic

These hooks are elegant and will go with any curtain!

Eclipse hooks, $19.99

As always, thanks so much for reading A Fresh Coat and I look forward to seeing you again soon! Also, please head over to facebook and “like” the new page when you get a chance! xoxo

A Copper Tub I’d Like to Sink Into

August 9, 2011 § 2 Comments

For some reason when the weather gets a little cloudy and the work day seems quite long, I’d just love to stop what I’m doing and take a nice, long soak! And what better tub to do it in than this copper slipper tub from Premier Copper Products?! A hot bubble bath would be just the thing to take my day from stressful to relaxing! A girl can dream, right?!

What’s your favorite type of tub? I’d love to hear about what your dream bathroom might include! Thanks for reading and please come back soon! xo
