I was reading Real Simple a few months back and came across a feature that had the most amazing nails I have ever seen (see bottom picture). The only problem is that with my job, those nails would call too much attention to my hands so I came up with a slightly less flashy version (by day I am a technical writer for a government contractor here in DC)! I grabbed this pack of 10 mini nail polishes from e.l.f. for $9.99 a few weeks ago and was so excited to see the Nude and Gold Star colors because I knew I could create a fun look inspired from the Real Simple shoot! What do you guys think? I’m also pretty excited to try out some of the other colors in the pack–I’m feeling green this season! I’ll paint my nails that color on a non-meeting day ha!
As always, thanks for reading A Fresh Coat! XOXO Also, if you’re on Facebook come over and say hello!

I’m a Philly girl at heart and one of my favorite places to go when I lived there was Love Park. It was on my walk to/from work and there was something magical about passing by the Love statue and the beautiful water fountain that reminded me Philly is the City of Brotherly Love. Well, now I can get my Love fix at the Sculpture Garden! Robert Indiana, the same man that created the Love image back in the ’60’s recently built the Amor sculpture (2006) and it’s at the Sculpture Garden! It was gifted to the National Gallery of Art in May 2012 by Simon and Gillian Salama-Caro in memory of Ruth Klausnerred. I can’t wait to go check it out…and maybe sneak a kiss in front of it for good measure!
As always, thanks for reading A Fresh Coat! If you snap any photos in front of the Amor statue, feel free to send them my way and I will post (email@example.com). XO

Hi everyone! Hope you are having a great week! I wanted to share a fun event that is happening this weekend in Old Town Alexandria at Ten Thousand Villages (TTV): from the 12-15th they are holding their annual rug event where hundreds of Bunyaad rugs will be on display and for sale. The Bunyaad is an artisan group in Pakistan made up of over 850 families and about 100 villages where the workers are all paid a fair, living wage. They are also paid per knot rather than per rug so it lends itself to a higher quality product, according to TTV. “It’s a win-win situation” says Kathleen McMahon, store manager. “Artisans in Pakistan earn a living wage and North American consumers get an excellent quality rug with an excellent mission behind it. Home decorating was never more meaningful!”
TTV held a class on Thursday night, a Rugs 101 they call it, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend. I’ve never purchased an Oriental rug myself but think they are beautiful and maybe one day when I live in a bigger house rather than a small one-bedroom apartment I will be able to get one! If you missed the class like me but are interested in learning about Oriental rug making, decorating tips, quality, different designs, and care instructions, check out some of the other stops this rug tour will be making here. Who knows, maybe they will be coming to a TTV near you (I did see a few stops in PA and NY)!
As always, thanks for reading the blog! I hope you get to check out some beautiful, handmade rugs this weekend! XOXO

Hey everyone! Last night my friends and I did the Electric Run 5K out at National Harbor and it was a blast! If it rolls into your town I would highly recommend it. It felt so amazing to jog at night by the water with the cool breeze–made me want to run outside more often. The run was good because there were all types of participants from hardcore runners to kids and it had a real party atmosphere. The number of glow sticks and tutus that were out and about last night was unreal! The entire course had fun, bright neon decorations and the music was loud and pumping for most of of the course. Hope you enjoy the pics below! I’m excited for my next 5k!

“Holy crap-this store is big!” was the first thing I thought when I rode the escalator down the stairs of the brand spankin’ new 50,000 square foot HomeGoods and TJ Maxx combo store in Georgetown (3222 M St NW ). The space is what used to be the really sad, often overlooked “mall” where the only place I ever seemed to visit was the DMV (I’m happy I’m a real Washingtonian now though!). The megastore opens tomorrow morning at 8am for its grand opening celebration and will close at 8pm; regular store hours will be M-Sat 9:30am-9:30pm and Sun 11am-8pm.
So, what can you expect? Well, I’m not supposed to “name names” but the Runway section has some amazing deals on leather bags and I can tell you you won’t be disappointed with the variety of clothes either! The minute I stepped foot in the section–it’s a special little slice of heaven in the front of the store where you can find high fashion designs for women (sorry, guys!) at drastically reduced prices–my Fall shopper mode came into full effect. Some hot trends like leather accents mixed with tweed stood out to me and I can’t wait to go back tomorrow and shop!
Besides the Runway, the store has a wide variety of men’s, kids, home accents and even specialty food items (black quinoa stood out to me along with some yummy looking British teas). Their pillow section is about a mile long (again, heaven!) and the table linens I peeked at were amazing–great fall colors like burnt orange and teal with modern, Moroccan-inspired designs were some of my favs. They also have a great selection of handmade items from India and hand-painted glass from Italy.
Thanks to the amazing team at HomeGoods and TJ Maxx, you my dear readers can have a shot at your very own giftcard! I have one $25 giftcard to HomeGoods and one $25 giftcard to TJ Maxx to give away!
