During the Washington Home & Garden Show at the DC Convention Center I had the exciting opportunity to take a tour of Innovation Avenue, a special row dedicated to some awesome home products that Sasha Andreev, host of HGTV’s Curb Appeal, helped select. Below, we’re standing in front of the Abakus solar panel which is innovative because of its low cost, width (it’s thin and blends in well on your roof unlike many other solar panels) and because it comes in different colors! To me, that’s the most innovative thing about these panels because although we all want to be eco-friendly, we also want to stay stylish!
Probably one of my favorite products I saw was the electric RazarSharp Ultra Trimmer. It’s a city-dweller’s dream because it easily trims and mows our tiny little yards, weighs almost nothing (you can lift it with a finger) and you can easily store it in a closet. For around $110 it seems like a steal to me!
Another great city find was an amazing gravel gardening company called To Soil Less. While I admit I chuckled at the name (I’m very mature!), I was amazed that more people aren’t gardening this way in apartments across America! All you need are some rocks, sand and presto–you can have yourself an easy indoor garden with fresh veggies in no time. I loved that the owner was so passionate about his product and although this wasn’t a part of Innovation Row, it probably would have been if they had put in to be in the running! Definitely go check out their website and try it out for yourself!
I hope you enjoyed this little peek at my tour of the show with Sasha and please feel free to let me know if you know of any great new products out there! As always, thanks for reading a Fresh Coat and please come back again. Also feel free to “Like” us on Facebook or check out our Pinterest page here. XOXO

Hi everyone! I hope you all are dealing with daylight savings time OK! As for me, I really am just fine with losing that hour of sleep because it means I get an extra hour of sunlight in the evenings and I’m so OK with that!
Today I thought it would be appropriate to share a really awesome new lightbulb with you from Areaware, the Plumen 001. It first captured my eye because it looks super-cool all by itself, but then when I read that it was also eco-friendly I liked it even more! This little twisty bulb uses 80% less enery than a traditional incandescent bulb and lasts about eight times longer, according to Areaware. Like with most eco-friendly products, you do have to pay a bit more up-front ($30 a pop, unless you buy 4 or more and then you can get them for $25 each) but the overall savings will be well worth it! With this bulb the estimated yearly energy cost is only $1.71 so I think for the price and energy-savings it’s well worth it! What do you think about these bulbs?
As always, thanks for reading and I hope you all had a great weekend! XO
