New Year, New Workout Clothes!

December 30, 2011 § 1 Comment

So, like most of the population the new year means new resolutions. Many of us are starting to think about all of those extra calories we’ve been eating since Thanksgiving and maybe have even started to notice the extra weight we’ve put on, too. The good news is that most people gain only about 1 pound between Thanksgiving and Christmas, as reported by the NY Times here, but the bad news is that they rarely lose it. Me, I’ve gained about 4 lbs since Thanksgiving and I would like to lose every last one of those lbs! So, I started a week early and have been hitting the gym every night as well as keeping below 1,250 calories per day. But I also wanted to make another New Year’s resolution: to start looking like I care at the gym! That’s right–I am very guilty of wearing faded black pants, old T-shirts and even black-on-black that hasn’t matched for about 30 wash cycles! You, too?! OK, I know I’m not alone–believe me, I see you there too! So here at A Fresh Coat, we’ve scoured for some hot gym clothes that you won’t be embarrassed to rock in 2012!

1. The Ruby Tank from Zobha has a built-in shelf bra with removable cups. My favorite part is the stripe under the bust–it has a slimming quality and the overall style is super-hot!

2. Color! I love the aqua-marine blue color of this tank and the fact that it isn’t screaming Nike. It has a built-in bra, a reflective stripe on the back and a pocket on the lower back. My favorite part? It’s LONG! Don’t be afraid to take a yoga class in this top, ladies! Also, if you order online from Sports Authority, you can save 20% until tomorrow night.

Nike, $44, Sports Authority

3. Purple pops and the pattern is perfect! It has a Moroccan-flare to it that I love and I can see myself taking a Masala Bhangra class in this baby!

Pavitra top, $45, Athleta

4. And since not everyone wants to spend $40 + on their workout gear, Target has a great selection of Champion C9, long workout tanks for $15.

5. If you want a thicker top by Champion, but still on the lower side of the price totem pole, the Double Dry tank does the trick for $26. The pink pattern is awesome, too (I like patterns because when you sweat it isn’t so obvious!)

If you’re looking for some extra motivation for working out, check out Lose It. If you have a smartphone, you can download the app for free (the website is free, too, so don’t fret)!

With this tool you can enter your physical information and then set a weight-loss goal. It will tell you how many calories you should eat if you want to lose, say 2lbs per week. From there you can log your meals and workouts, as well as search for food items from their database. If you have an iPhone you can even scan the barcode of whatever item you’re about to indulge in and it will log all of the nutritional content from that item (sodium, fat, etc.). My favorite part about the app is that when you exercise, it will help you determine how many calories you’ve burned and will then subtract that amount from your daily calorie allotment. You can also add “friends” to help motivate you, as they will be able to see your progress and calories consumed/worked out. If you’re interested in being my “friend” shoot me an e-mail at jenatafreshcoat@gmail.com.

As always, thanks for reading A Fresh Coat and please head over to our Facebook page and give us a “Like” if you get a chance.

One more thing–I’d like to wish my wonderful sister Chrissy a very happy BIRTHDAY today! Love you sis! XOXO

Bling in the New Year!

December 28, 2011 § 1 Comment

I don’t know if it’s that I’m from Jersey or what but I make no apologies for my love of sparkles on a dress! I’ve been saving up this one-shoulder number from Baby Phat for a few months to release it just in time for this wonderful holiday. At $79, it’s quite a steal (they also have it in plus size for $84)! You can get this dress on their website or at your local Macy’s (and PS, there’s been an extra 10-20% off coupon for Macy’s almost every day this week in my e-mail!).

Baby Phat, $79

If you’re looking for something a little more chic, check out this chiffon and sequin dress from New York & Co. which is on sale for $65 now.

NY&Co, $65

The Kensie dress in Dark Storm has long sleeves (perfect cold-weather dress!) and a fun pattern–yet sparkles bright for $88.

For just a hint of sparkle, Vera does it best. This strapless bead-waist tulip dress is girly and flirty at the same time, $237 (on sale!) at Neiman Marcus.

Vera Wang, $237

And finally, if you want a little edge with a touch of sparkle to tone down the biker-chic look, check out this fabulous dress by Antonio Croce, $1,260  (yes, a little pricey but OMG I love it!), Neiman Marcus.

Time to Get Cozy!

December 20, 2011 § Leave a comment

sweater vase, C&B, $12.95

Tonight I have the fire going and it got me thinking about some items I’ve seen around lately that make me feel cozy. I thought I’d share a few of my favs with you tonight before I finish up wrapping the last of my Christmas presents (how are you doing with that, btw?!!). So, here they are:

There’s nothing I love more than a chunky knit and the sweater vase¬†(above) from Crate & Barrel adds a little warmth to this porcelain vessel.

Pinecone firestarters, C&B, $16.95

These firestarters¬†will make the area near your fireplace look much more festive¬†than a box of newspapers (not that any of us do that….haha!).

KnitStorm Tea Cosy, $16

This amazing mug cosy from KnitStorm¬†makes a nice, hot cup of tea look pretty and feel even better in your hands. I have to give a shout-out here to my old schoolmate, Katy, who knits these babies and sells them from her Etsy store! I love all of her designs as well as the fact that she will custom-knit a label! Don’t worry coffee-lovers, there’s something for you too!

Tonight was just a quick post but I didn’t want you to think I’ve forgotten about you guys during this busy (read: I’ve been taking some time off) holiday season! As always, thanks for reading A Fresh Coat and please give us ¬†a “Like” on our Facebook page when you get a chance! Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to everyone! XOXO

A Fresh Coat Goes to Las Vegas!

December 16, 2011 § 1 Comment

We arrived in Las Vegas yesterday and so far it’s been a blast and we’ve only covered a third of the strip! There are so many wonderfully decorated hotels here that we are in pure heaven! So far, a favorite spotting was a chandelier made entirely of ice at the Minus Five Ice Bar at the Monte Carlo. We would have gotten a pic but you have to put your electronics in a locker before you head in so, eh! We’re also stoked due to all of the Christmas decorations everywhere and so far our favorite tree was this one at the Mandalay Bay!

We can’t wait to explore more of Las Vegas and hope you all are enjoying your week! As always, thanks for reading! xoxo

Fun Stocking Stuffers from FredFlare.com!

December 9, 2011 § Leave a comment

I’ve been browsing the internet for fun stocking stuffers for my friends and family and came across some amazing stuff at Fred Flare! Today when I decided to blog about all of¬†¬†the cool finds, I was so happy to see that the Aphrodite USB charger I’ve had my eye on is now on sale from $46 to $29.99! Hooray! I think I might just get one for myself ūüôā

They also have some fun accessories for your iPhone or iPod, like angel wing stands  ($7.99) and this disco ball speaker ($9.99).

This very adorable tree is fun for kids (or adults at your work Holiday Party!)–it’s “magic” and grows in front of your eyes in seconds ($10)!

This ice cream-pop soap ($7.99) ¬†is a¬†delicious treat but won’t cost your friends any calories! Perfect!

And last but not least, for the indecisive friend on your list, the Predict-A-Pen ($10) will help them make a decision with just one click!

Well, I hope you all enjoyed some of these fun stocking stuffers from Fredflare.com and as always, thanks for reading A Fresh Coat! If you get a chance, head on over to our Facebook page and give us a “like.” Thanks so much! XOXO

Spotlight! Decorium in Old Town, Alexandria

December 7, 2011 § 2 Comments

This past weekend I headed to Old Town Alexandria for a holiday festival and stopped dead in my tracks when I found Decorium. Their window display made me stop and stare like a little kid who just caught their first glimpse of Santa! Twinkling icicles, snowballs thrown against the window and a showroom filled with glittery snow in piles all over the floor made it feel like a winter wonderland!I’ve attached a slideshow of some of my favorite things I found while browsing! If you get a chance, I would definitely head over to Old Town to browse their amazing collection of holiday decor as well as sneak a peek at some of their bigger ticket items, if you’re in the market!

As always, thanks for reading A Fresh Coat and I hope to see you soon! XOXO
