I love me some Philly (Flower Show, World Cafe Live and a Bachelorette Party, oh my!)

It’s been a little bit since I’ve last written and I do apologize! I recently decided to travel to Africa to Cameroon and it’s been a whirlwind getting ready for my trip. I’m traveling for pleasure (not the peace core or a mission of some sort, which pretty much everyone thinks when I tell them I’m going to Africa!).
In the meantime, I’ve also had a weekend trip to Philadelphia–my hometown! One of my good friends is getting married and her bridal party threw her a surprise shower so I had to attend that! And it just so happened that it was the opening weekend of the Philadelphia Flower Show, whose theme this year was Paris! The main structure was a replica of the bottom of the Eiffel Tower:
One of my favorite exhibits was turning trash into a recycled art vignette by Michael Bruce Florist from Collingswood, NJ. This piece reminded me of an exhibit I saw at the Guggenheim museum about 8 years ago where the artist used birds to create the shadow of a woman wearing a hat (sort of creepy but it was so interesting..too bad I forget his name!).
My good friend Kim actually talked me into going to the Flower Show and we were both pretty excited about all of the beautiful orchids…they are one of my favorite flowers. That’s me on the right and Kim on the left! Love her!
The weekend ended going to the World Cafe Live for the WXPN Benefit Show for Musicians on Call, where my good friend Kuf Knotz was performing. It’s a great program where musicians perform at healthcare facilities all over the city to bring a little music into people’s lives and help them with the healing process. The show was amazing and really gave me a dose of the Philly soulful sound I love and miss! The icing on the cake was that it was for such a good cause, so I encourage you to check it out!
Thanks for reading! I know this post is a little off-topic from what I usually write about but I thought I would let you all know what I’ve been up to while I’ve been away. I’ll probably have one more post before I take a small hiatus while I’m in Africa but I look forward to finding some amazing things to share with you when I return.
