Well, this past couple of weeks have been very busy with friends visiting from out of town and a hectic work schedule. However, there’s always time to release the creative juices when it comes to my group of friends. We decided to have a pumpkin-carving party last night and it was a blast! Here’s what we did:
- Large Bowl
- Large Spoon (for scooping pumpkin guts out)
- Carving kit (Safeway, $1.99/each) If you don’t want to buy a kit a pen, potato peeler and bread knife work well, too.
- Print-out of your Pattern (there are tons of free, awesome patterns at http://www.bhg.com/holidays/halloween/pumpkin-carving/printable-pumpkin-stencils/)
- Old Newspaper (to make clean-up easy)
First, we laid out a bunch of newspaper on the coffee table to prep for the mess that was to come. Then, we placed our pumpkins, bowl, spoon and tools on the table so everything was at our fingertips. We used a bread knife to cut the top of the pumpkins off and began the task of taking all the guts out. The carving kits came with a scraper that was helpful, especially to get the side you want to carve on extra-thin. After the inside was nice and smooth, we taped on our patterns and got to work.
We worked pretty hard on our carvings and spent from about an hour and a half to…four hours!…on our carvings. All of our hard work was definitely worth it though!
And then, there were pumpkins! If you carve any of your own send me pictures!

I am an apartment dweller and as such, there are a lot of things I can’t do (per my lease) that homeowners can. One of those things is paint anything that I don’t want to paint back white before I move out. Some of the other rooms in my apartment I think I could handle–for example, my teeny-tiny bathroom that puts NY bathrooms to shame or an accent wall in my living room. But my bedroom is just too big of a project to invest all that time in which is why I decided to put my energy into finding the perfect purple bedspread and curtains. But I felt like my walls needed a little something special and ever since wall decals became “all the fad” a few years back I’ve envied those stickers and really wanted them in my place. Alas, my budget did not allow me to spend the hundreds of dollars decals cost when they first came out. Luckily, now that they’ve been on the market for a bit my good friend Target has pulled through and come out with a wonderful line of decals! Check out the chandelier I scored at Target for $14.99! It really adds that finishing touch I wanted and it’s removable. It also comes with these pretty crystals you stick on top of the decal where the “lights” would be. It may sound cheesy but it looks very sophisticated and doesn’t even look like a sticker! I seriously enjoy quick projects like these that look like I spent a ton of time on them. If you’re worried about applying the decal improperly, don’t fret–I peeled mine on and off at least three times before I got it just right! Please mind the picture quality below, I took it with my iPhone 1. Yes, I still have the original iPhone…but that’s another post!

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with purple. I’d been on the hunt for almost a year for the perfect purple bedspread that wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg. And it had to be just the right shade–I wanted a deep, dark purple that would give my bedroom a hint of sophistication and I couldn’t seem to find what I wanted until I went to Ikea this year and laid my eyes on the Karit bedspread for $49.99! Of course, as shown below, I had to test out the blanket in the store. I wanted to make sure the fabric
would be comfortable because I REALLY enjoy my sleep, especially in the winter. After a quick trial in the store and a few odd looks from store associates, I put the blanket and matching pillow cases in my blue ikea reusable bag and headed for the door. I found what I wanted, now I had to get out of there before I got out of control! The bedspread looked great on my bed and Haley, my cat, certainly approved!
A few days later I headed to the CVS around the corner from me, where I believe I should have stock because half of my income goes there for some reason, I stumbled across a brand of nail polish I had never noticed before: Confetti. I saw their moonstruck shade and decided that at $1.99 it was a steal and I had to check it out! Usually the cheap stuff is watery and you have to put on about 5 coats for it to look like salon-quality but Confetti Moonstruck went on smoothly and had a nice, glossy finish before I even added a topcoat! Since this trip, I’ve purchased a few other colors and have been presently surprised. I def recommend checking out this brand–they have all the hot colors for the season!

1249 Wisconsin Ave. NW is the new home of UGG Australia! For a long time I refused to give in to my UGG secret desire because I thought they were a fad and wouldn’t stick around for long…but that all changed the moment I slipped my feet into a pair! They make you feel like you are walking on clouds (in slippers) that keep your feet incredibly toasty. Although I missed the grand opening party on Sept. 30, I was lucky enough to snag some pictures, courtesy of Rob Wilson at 360i for UGG® Australia. Thanks, Rob for letting me know about the new store and for the pics–looks like I missed a great time! I can’t wait to check out their new spot. If you go, let me know what you think!
